Our push for the NSW Government to incentivise good drivers has rewarded 408,000 people with half price licence fees since the scheme launched. Not only can slowing down save your life – it can also save you money.

NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell recently announced more than 400,000 motorists have been rewarded with half priced drivers’ licences as part of the ‘Fair Go for Safe Drivers’ incentive scheme.

The scheme, which began 1 July 2012, was launched off the back of the NRMA’s Motoring & Services campaign that pushed for a discount in licence fees for good drivers. An overwhelming 95 per cent of Members supported a reduction in license fees for drivers with a clean record.

The latest scheme figures show women are safer drivers than men, and suggest Port Macquarie drivers are the state’s safest with almost 2,700 residents receiving the discount – more than anywhere else in the state.

“More women than men are being rewarded for their safe driving. The figures show 223,904 women have received the discounted licence while 184,443 men have done so”, Mr O’Farrell said.

“Motorists in regional NSW are more likely to receive the 50 per cent discount than their city counterparts. In the Sydney metropolitan area Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills and Blacktown are the areas where most people have obtained the discounted licence”

The Fair Go for Safe Drivers’ incentive scheme rewards motorists who hold a good driving record for five years with a 50 per cent reduction on the price of their drivers’ licence renewal, which is a discount of up to $81.

Below is a table of the suburbs that received the most discount.
